A new court proceeding on lawsuits against Stryker was formed in Florida on October 3, 2013 under Broward County Circuit Court Judge Marina Garcia-Wood. She released an order combining 13 Stryker lawsuits for pre-trial proceedings.

Similar to multidistrict litigation (MDL) and multicounty litigation (MCL), individual lawsuits will remain separate for the reason of establishing compensation values.
For consolidating the cases, Judge Garcia-Wood reasoned out that several lawsuits were already filed against Stryker in Florida, impending lawsuits are expected to be filed, and pre-trial coordination was “appropriate pursuant to standing court rules and administrative orders.”

Plaintiffs still has the choice of joining this Florida proceedings or the existing MDL in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota or the MCL in New Jersey Superior Court in Bergen County.

Aging is a stage that we will all go through at a certain point in our lives. With this, it is important to know that along with aging comes some problem with our mobility. For the elderly mobility is an important element of their quality of life. Hip and joint problems are the most common causes of mobility problems, according to medical resources.  In cases like these, patients may opt for a permanent hip pain treatment such as an invasive surgical procedure. Some people opt to undergo a hip replacement surgery. However, this procedure has been considered risky especially due to the safety issues of hip implants just like the recalled Stryker metal on metal ABG II model.

Research findings from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany reveal that due to the aging population of some nations, modern societies intend to intervene and enhance the mobility of the elderly.

Based on a research study on mobility conducted by Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, over 19 million Americans experience walking difficulties and use a mobility device. The19 million figure does not include people in institutions or nursing homes, as explained by the researchers. That is actually more than 10 percent of the adult population in America.

Mobility problems, whether caused by a disability or just old age, may turn daily tasks into a difficult torment. Thus, it is important for people with mobility issues to understand the devices out there that can aid them in their fight against mobility problems.

However, according to Disabled World, problems with mobility devices are increasing. In 2008, more than 100,000 Americans were injured while using a wheelchair, cane, walker or scooter. Statistics show that the number of people who have been injured while using mobility devices has doubled in the past 10 years.

Aside from using mobility devices, one of the most popular options in managing mobility problems is a total hip replacement, which may be easily resorted to if the patient is able to cope with the conditions of the procedure. However, risks are always present in surgeries, as were raised in allegations on defective medical products such as the Stryker hip implants.
